Class - Olga's Jacket

Dedicate your Monday evenings to making a show-stopper!

Class will include assistance choosing yarns, evaluating color, as well as adjusting gauge or size to suit you. You'll have Stephanie at your disposal every Monday to help with each stage of construction.

Stephanie is using Ella Rae Eco Tweed, a luscious sport weight that has a stable structure once blocked (it's like magic!) Check out the great colors of Eco Tweed in stock. You can also use any yarn that gets 16 sts = 4" gauge as long as you like the fabric created.

Pattern and materials are not included in the registration fee. While purchasing materials at Cloverhill Yarn Shop is not required, students receive a 10% discount on all regular-priced yarn intended for their class project.

Save the Dates - Dec 7 & 14 are reserved for inclement weather make up. Class wil not meet on these days unless the class schedule is interupted.

Stephanie is using Ella Rae Eco Tweed for a light weight jacket similar to the designers. Ella Rae - Eco Tweed 328 yds / 300 meters, 100 g / 3.5 oz. Colors used in Stephanie's sample: 6 Goldenrod (C1), 25 Amethyst (C2), 3 Tumblewood (C3), 27 Atlantis (C4), 12 Indigo (C5).

GAUGE
16 sts x 32 rows in 4” / 10 cm, in garter stitch on main size needles, after blocking.
Needles: US4/3.5 mm (main) and US2/2.75 mm (ribbing) or as needed to get gauge (or close to gauge) in garter stitch worked flat.

A Note about Needles!

Regarding Needle Size:
You will want to use a needle size that will give you gauge (or close to gauge). Most knitters will need much larger needles that the US 4 needles recommended in the pattern.  Expect your needle size to be anywhere from US 5 to US 9 depending on your yarn and personal knitting tension. (Stephanie is using US 6 needles and a loose hand on her project.) For the ribbing, plan to use a needle 2 sizes smaller than what you use for the garter stitch body.

Regarding Needle Length:
Circular needles are recommended. Much of the jacket is worked modularly so the length of your needle isn't critical. A 24" circular will be sufficient for much of the construction regardless of the size jacket you are making. However, there are portions of the construction that will require circular needles greater than 24" long. The neck band and side sections require up to 47"-60" long needles for the larger sizes depending on how crowded you like your stitches to be.
