Class - Wood Block Mitts

Jump in to modular knitting with Stephanie as you make the Wood Block Mitts by Ysolda. This is a fantastic small project to use up mini skeins or scraps of fingering/sock weight yarn. We'll use some modular knitting techniques and some pretty cool (perhaps mind bending) construction tricks to make these mitts. Come to class with your yarns wound, and ready for an adventure. We'll cast on together in class together after a brief review of yarn selections and color choices. (That is unless you just can't wait that long to get started and you cast on before class!)

Skills Required:
You'll need to know how to knit, cast on, bind off, and feel comfortable working with fine yarn and small size needles. 

Skills Learned:
This project also involves K2TOG, SSK, K3TOG, and pick-up-and-knit. You'll learn these in class if you don't already know them. You'll also be knitting small circumferences in the round, including the tiny circumference around the thumb.

Sizing: Small [Large]

• Small: 7.5" circumference, 7.5" length
• Large: 8.5" circumference, 8.5" length

Needles: US 2 (2.75mm) DPNs or circulars for your method of choice to knit small circumferences in the round.

Yarn:
Designed for 4 colors of fingering or sock weight yarn. This project is perfect for mini skeins or scraps. You can also choose to make these mitts with more colors or with as few as 2 colors. Stephanie's sample is worked in Tempting Ewe Yarns, Ewe so Happy Sock and Ewe so Happy Sparkle Sock.

• Main Color (MC): 130 [155] yds (forms main body of mitt)
• Contrast 1 (CC1): 40 [45] yds (forms center square and ribbing)
• Contrast 2 (CC2): 15 [15] yds (forms large triangles)
• Contrast 3 (CC3): 20 [20] yds forms small triangles)

Want to use Tempting Ewe mini skeins?
Grab 1 mini for each contrast color and 2 minis for the main color (that will be enough for either small or large size mitts).

Target Agenda
Day 1 - Review yarn and color selections. Cast on center square. Learn about the next shapes that build off the center square.
Day 2 - Build background shapes around the center star motif.
