Class - Brioche It All Weekends

Meets on Sat & Sat mornings 10am-12:30pm over 3 weekends starting Sat Jan 24th & 25th.
Reserve Sat., Feb 14 as possible day for winter weather make up.
Dive into Brioche over a series of weekends. You’ll learn 2 color brioche from basic 2 color ribbing to increases & decreases, fixing mistakes, and dabbling in textures.
Skills required: This class is considered advanced and is appropriate for adventurous knitters who already know how to knit, purl, cast on, bind off, increase, and decrease in their knitting projects. This class is an excellent next step in any brioche journey but is also appropriate for first time brioche knitters. If you’d like to have an introduction to brioche before this one we recommend taking one or both of Stephanie’s Intro to Brioche classes (Intro to Brioche 1-color Flat and/or Intro to Brioche 2-color Flat).
Projects:
This class will focus on 2-color brioche worked in the round.
Choose:
- Rhoda Brioche Cowl – Pattern available on Ravelry
- Clara Brioche Hat – Pattern available on Ravelry
- Brioche Textures Sampler - Pattern available from Stephanie
Or choose from one of these for a starting project:
- Basic 2-color Brioche Scarf - Pattern available from Stephanie
- Basic 2-color Brioche Cowl or Neck Gator – Pattern available from Stephanie
- Basic 2-color Brioche Hat - Pattern available from Stephanie
- Other pattern approved by Stephanie before class.
Some speedy knitters may complete their first project and start another brioche project of their choosing. Recommended next projects include:
- Rhoda Brioche Cowl – Pattern available on Ravelry
- Clara Brioche Hat – Pattern available on Ravelry
- Brioche Textures Sampler - Pattern available from Stephanie
- Any other brioche pattern of your choosing. If you have one you really want to tackle you should bring it to the 1st day of class as well so Stephanie can help tailor your learning to suit the needs of your project.
Each class meeting will focus topics related to the sections of projects currently being worked, or review techniques upcoming within your project. Topics and skills will be introduced in each class with plenty of time in class to practice, back-track, or review previous information. You should work at your own pace and Stephanie will help guide you as you encounter new techniques or need assistance.
Patterns:
Patterns from Ravelry purchased separately.
Patterns noted as available from Stephanie will be furnished in class.
Yarn:
All projects listed require 2 colors of worsted weight yarn. 100g each color is sufficient for each project listed above. Rhoda is written for Dk weight yarn but works great in worsted weight. If you are making the Rhoda Cowl, you may use DK or Worsted weight yarn. For best learning, choose a yarn like Malabrigo Rios. Look for yarn with excellent stitch definition. Avoid thick-n-thin, textured, fuzzy, or hairy yarns. Shop your stash or get 10% off any yarn purchased for your class project.
A note on colors: Variegated and tonal yarns are great in brioche! The caviat is that if you are using a variegated yarn(s) the colors should not overlap. For instance, if your variegated yarn has blue in it, do not pair it with a yarn that is a similar blue. You want to be able to differentiate each of your yarn’s 2 colors (colorways) from each other for each stitch. Save subtle color overlaps for future brioche projects.
