Class - Building with Lace (Monthly Jan-Nov)

Pattern/Book by Michelle Hunter (aka Knit Purl Hunter)

Meets on 3rd Sunday every month Jan 2026 - Nov 2026, 10am-12:30pm
Reserve March 29th for possible winter weather make up date.

Build, explore, and expand your skills with Stephanie each month. Because this class is a long term commitment, we know that you might miss a class meeting or two - we’ve priced the class with this in mind.

Each class meeting will review topics related to the section of the project currently being worked on. The class will follow the construction of the Building with Lace shawl. You can choose to complete the lace shawl as written in the pattern/book, or you may participate in class without completing the shawl by working on swatches.

Before each class, your homework goals will be to complete the previous section of the shawl, and/or cast on and create a swatch to work on in class. Instructions will be provided before each class for the appropriate swatch size and set up rows so that we can use class time to focus on skills without having to deal with 120 stitches per row. Working on swatches is optional but can be useful for learning even if you intend to complete the shawl. Your swatches can be made of the same yarn as your shawl or from different yarn(s) altogether.

Yarn:
The pattern is written for DK or sport weight yarn with a guage of 22 sts = 4". There are many yarn options you might consider. Shop your stash or get 10% off regularly priced yarn purchased for your class project. (No Alpaca, you instructor is allergic to alpaca!)

Needles: US 6 needles (circulars recommended, 24" length) or size needed to achieve gauge. Gauge is not critical for this project but will impact the amount of yarn you may need to complete the project. If you choose to use a thicker or thinner yarn, you may need to adjust your needle size accordingly.

Other Materials:

Stitch markers - open or closed style to mark pattern repeats
Locking stitch markers - to help catch any dropped stitches, count stitches/rows, and mark your right side.
Note taking materials.

Come to the first class with yarn wound and ready to cast on together.

Pre-class Homework: Read pages 2-9 in the pattern book. (see page 54-55 for any terms or abbreviations you don't know)
