KAL + CAL - Sea Glass Color Party & Yarn Swap

Join us for a Mini Skein and Stash Swap!  Choose October 6, 6pm-9pm or; October 20, 6pm-9pm.  If you are interested in a swap on November 3rd 6pm-9pm please add yourself to the waitlist to show your interest.

This event will focus on helping you create a color palette for your Sea Glass KAL + CAL project or any other stash-busting-scrap-using project you might have in mind.  Space will be limited - We will not have space for everyone to bring their whole stash! Please limit your swap yarn to Fingering - Sport - DK - Light Worsted range.  Bring any yarn you know you want to use for your project as well and any yarn you're happy to let go of.  We recommend that you watch Wool & Pine's tutorial videos before you come so that you can do a little preliminary color planning. Please look at your pattern to access the tutorial videos. You can also look at projects on Ravelry or Instagram (#seaglasstee) for ideas and color inspiration.

Yarn Winding:
Please have all the yarn you bring into the shop wound into a balls or cakes.  This will help everyone avoid confusion with shop yarn available for purchase. Please bring the original yarn labels with you if possible.  The yarns you bring can be full balls or partial balls leftover from previous projects.

Last Drop Off Date for Winding             Swap Date

Things To Bring:
  • Your pattern, especially the page that lists the yarn requirements for your project and size.
  • Your yarn wound into balls or cakes.  If you need yarn wound, please drop yarn off well in advance.  Please see the dates above for the last day we will accept yarn winding requests for this event.  Please do not wait until last minute. We will not be able to wind everyone's yarn if it's all dropped off at the same time.  Please help us help you and drop off as early as possible.  We are happy to hold on to your yarn until the swap party, or you can pick up your yarn as soon as we have it wound.  Please drop of your yarns in a box or bag to be returned to you when you pick up your yarn.  Please review our yarn winding policy (here).  Yarn purchased from the shop will be wound for free. We charge a small fee $1 or $2 to wind yarn that was not purchased at Cloverhill Yarn Shop. This fee partially offsets the time and effort we put into winding your yarn.  If you'd like to thank us for winding your yarn you can use "Hey Thanks for Winding My Yarn" on the website, or mention it in the shop when you drop off your yarn.
  • 1 or 2 bins (optional) - approximately the size of a TV table, no more than 10" tall. This will help sort and display your yarns in one layer so everything will be visible.  1 bin for "yes I want to use this"  -  and 1 bin for "I'm not using this and it is swap-able."
  • Snacks and Drinks (optional) - bring something to sustain yourself.  Share if you want to.  Please make sure all drinks and beverages have water tight lids or caps.
  • Small kitchen scale (optional) - helpful if you want to estimate how much yarn is left in a ball.  Cloverhill will have one available for use during the event
  • Small string tags (optional) - good for tagging your yarn with information about estimated weight, yards, color order when making your project, or anything else you might want to note.
  • Note taking supplies (optional) - pen/pencil(s), paper, notebook, whatever.
  • A bag or box for donation (optional) - At the end of the evening, Cloverhill will be accepting yarns for donation if you just don't want to take your yarns back home.  If you might consider donating yarn, please have a bag or box with you that can hold your donation.  (You will not get your bag/box back.)  Cloverhill often has requests from charity groups or organizations seeking yarn.  We fullfill these requests from from your donated yarn.  If we have more donation yarn than we can store, we send it to our friends at Scrap B'more.

Swap Yarn Recommendations:
  • Yarn should be already wound into a ball or cake (to avoid confusion with yarn for sale in the shop).
  • Yarn being swapped should be virgin, not unraveled from a previous project.  Some people do not enjoy working with kinky yarn and may avoid it.
  • Yarn should be free of pet hair/dander, smoke, perfume, strong odors (including Febreze), etc.  These things can be strong triggers for peoples' asthma, allergies, migraines and other symptoms.  Please be considerate and upfront about any potential triggers when you are swapping yarn with people.  Swappers should feel comfortable asking any questions about the yarn they are considering bringing home with them.  Swappers should not feel offended or hurt if someone decides they don't want to take home their yarn. Its just yarn.  Its not personal.

This is going to be a fun night!

Please see information about the patterns on the Sea Glass Gatherings page (here).
