Class - Exhilarate Shawl with Stephanie

Join Stephanie on Monday evenings for 6 weeks this summer as we make the Exhilarate Shawl together.

More than just a KAL, but not an intensive technique class.  More of a relaxed low stress class for the summer.  Come to every class meeting, or attend just a few. We've priced this class so you can feel ok if you can't attend every meeting. But!!! to make this work we need to run a full class.  Register early to show your interest.

You'll learn some stuff, relax, chat, and make a neat shawl, all with a Stephanie to guide you.  You'll have the shop to yourselves for this afterhours class.  If you want to amp up your learning in this relaxed class, Stephanie is always ready to answer on-topic and off-topic questions.

This project is great for adventurous beginners.  Seriously! Not even one purl stitch to be found in the whole project! More experienced knitters with enjoy the modular construction and the dash of intarsia.

Minimum Skills Required:

  • you must know how to knit.
  • really, that's it.
  • you do not need to know how to purl.  :)
  • if you don't feel confident casting on yet, that's ok.  We will cast on together in class.

You'll learn:

  • Modular Construction:  picking up stitches in garter stitch.  We'll cover different ways to do it.
  • Intarsia: there's just enough to make this project perfect to dip your toes in for the first time with no stress and no complex shapes or diagonals.
  • I-Cord bind off.

What you'll need:

Pattern:
Exhilarate Revisited by Amy Gunderson.  Pattern is free. Printout will be provided in class.

Suggested Yarn:  (get 10% off any yarn purchased for class)
Universal Yarn Bamboo Pop Sock (55% bamboo, 37% cotton, 8% PBT; 100g/492 yds)
• Color (A) – 1 ball any colorway or your choice (shown in 506 Rip Tide)
• Color (B) – 1 ball any colorway of your choice (shown in 503 Jetties)

Universal Yarn
Bamboo Pop Sock Solids (55% bamboo, 37% cotton, 8% PBT; 100g/492 yds)
• Color (C) – 1 ball any color of you choice (shown in 620 Moondust)

Alternate Yarns:  (get 10% off any yarn purchased for class)
You can use fingering or sock weight yarn you want for this project.  You'll want to match color quantity and yardage listed above.  Consider using Crazy Zauberball, Uneek Sock, Wonderland Blossoms, Sweet Georgia Party of 5. Got some stash yarn to use up?  This shawl would be great at showing off striping or gradient yarns; using up scraps; or playing with solids yarns and improvised color blocking.

Needles:
US Size 4 (3.5 mm) (or size needed to obtain gauge) in a length 24” circular or longer (to accommodate large number of stitches).  You may find it convenient to use multiple lengths in this project at different times.

Notions:
Tapestry needle, stitch markers, stitch holders or waste yarn or additional circular needles

Project Information:

Finished Measurements:
Width along longest edge: 53.5"
Depth in center: 22"

Gauge:
22 sts x 44 rows = 4" in garter stitch

This shawl is worked modularly in 4 sections. This pattern includes a diagram to help you visualize the construction. Sections 1 and 2 are worked using the intarsia method. When switching to a new color in the same row, bring the new color up and around the previous color to prevent holes from forming in the work. Wind off a ball of yarn for each different color segment. Stitches are picked up along the side of Section 1, and Section 2 is worked in a different direction.

Register now to secure your seat.  Don't let yarn selection hold you up!   Register for the class only so that you don't miss out on a spot.  You can make yarn choices later.  You'll still get 10% off any yarn purchased for the class when you shop in person, even yarn that isn't the suggested yarn.  Promise. And, if you can't make it to the shop before class, just give us a call and we can send you an invoice with the class discount, or put your yarn on hold.
