Policies for Classes, Private Lessons, and Gatherings

Classes

Classes are offered on a wide range of topics and skills in fiber arts from Knitting, Crochet, Spinning, Weaving, and more.  If we know how to do it, then we can teach you how to do it too!  If there's something you want to learn and we don't have a class scheduled, we're 99% certain we can accommodate you with a private lesson, just ask.

Current class offerings can be viewed on the Classes page of our online store.

We design and price our classes to cover the cost of instruction.  Some classes include a pattern and yarn in the cost, but most classes do not. Please read class descriptions carefully.  The class descriptions will tell you what kind of yarn to look for and may recommend yarns that we carry that are well suited for your class project.  You are not required to buy your pattern or materials here, but we appreciate it when you do and offer a 10% discount on yarn purchased for classes.  That being said, we know we're not the only LYS in town or that you might have just the right thing in your stash already.  Go ahead, use your stash or find your perfect yarn.

Class Etiquette

Please be considerate to your other classmates and arrive to class on time.  Your instructor prioritizes maintaining the pace of the class and playing catch-up with late students detracts from teaching time.

Your instructor designed your class time to balance learning, demonstrating, and practicing and has incorporated time for questions and answers in every class.  Please do not hold your questions for "after class," as your teacher will be busy packing and making the space tidy for the next class or lesson.

We cannot accommodate use of the shop tables before or after your scheduled class.  Please plan to pack your work at the end of your class or lesson to allow the instructor to tidy the space prior to the next class or private lesson.

Food and drinks are discouraged unless you are staff on duty (we do not want our staff to go hungry when they are working all day shifts!)  If you are attending a scheduled class, gathering, or private lesson; you are permitted to eat small, bite-size snacks and drinks that are covered, capped, or lidded.  Meals and open cup drinks are not permitted at this time.

Refunds and Cancellations
No refunds or price adjustments will be provided for late arrivals or no-shows.

To initiate a cancellation please contact us directly (in-person at the brick-and-mortar shop or by phone during shop hours at 410-788-7262.  We cannot hold your class payment for a spot in an unscheduled future class.

In most cases, you may cancel your class registration up to 1 week before the day of the class for a full refund as store credit only.

Some classes may require registration to be closed and finalized in advance of the first class to order, prepare materials, or to provide advance notice to instructors for creating class materials.

Group classes have a minimum enrollment quota that must be reached in order for the class to run (the minimum varies for each class/class-type/teacher).  We will evaluate enrollment status 3-7 days before a class starts to determine if a cancellation must be made.  If a class is cancelled due to low enrollment we will contact you 3-7 days before the class to discuss options.  We cannot hold your class payment for a spot in an unscheduled future class.  Should the instructor cancel the class, you will be eligible for a full refund; however we may offer options such as private lessons, or a tiny group class with adjusted pricing. (Please note: some payments methods cannot be refunded directly and may require refund as store credit; namely some debit cards.)

Private Lessons

We offer private lessons on a wide range of topics and skills in the fiber arts from Knitting, Crochet, Spinning, and Weaving.  If we know how to do it, then we want to teach you how to do it too!

You can view our current lesson availability on the Classes and Services page of our online store.  New lesson slots are posted every 2-4 weeks.

Most lesson topics can be covered in a one hour session, but there are many topics that need additional time.  We highly recommend that you speak with one of our staff to determine the best length of time for your lesson.  You should also confirm if there are any specific materials, or pre-class homework required for your lesson.

Additionally, should you need any yarn or fiber, a 10% discount will be applied for yarn or fiber purchased for your private lesson.

Class Etiquette

Please be considerate and arrive to your lesson on time.  Your instructor will be coming to the shop specifically to meet with you on their personal time.

You will be given a 10-15 minutes grace period, after which you will be considered a no-show and your instructor will be at liberty to leave.  Late arrivals will shorten the time with your instructor and lesson end times will not be adjusted due to late arrival.

No refunds or price adjustments will be provided for late arrivals or no-shows.

Cancellations may be made up to 48 hours before the appointment time for a full refund. (Please note that some payments methods cannot be refunded directly and may require refund as store credit; namely some debit cards.)

Cancellations made with 24-48 hour notice will be eligible for rescheduling or refund as store credit only.

Cancellations made with less than 24 hour notice will be eligible for rescheduling with a 20% rescheduling fee, or 80% refund as store credit only.

To initiate a cancellation or rescheduling, please contact us directly (in-person at the brick-and-mortar shop or by phone during shop hours 410-788-7262).

Face masks are still required for private lessons at this time. Due to the intimate nature of hands-on demonstrating and teaching face-to-face, social distancing may be a challenge.  Our staff and instructor are fully vaccinated.

We cannot accommodate use of the shop tables before or after your scheduled lesson.  Please plan to pack your work at the end of your lesson to allow the instructor to tidy the space prior to the next lesson.

Gatherings Policies

Some of our social gatherings have resumed.  Please check our posted schedule to confirm dates, times, frequency, seating capacity, etc..  Some of our gatherings will have reduced frequency.  We plan to increase our gathering frequency and capacities as we monitor customer interest and COVID-19 conditions.  In the case where gatherings, occur outside our posted business hours, the register will be open for purchases, however staff will not be available for project help, pattern/yarn shopping guidance, etc.

CAPACITY:   Each event will have a maximum attendance/seating capacity established at our sole discretion.  Capacity will be determined based on shop layout, time of gathering, workspace allotment for each attendee, ease of access, etc.  We reserve the right to adjust capacity for future events, but shall not increase the capacity on the fly at an in-progress event.  Your RSVP will reserve your spot at the event.  Walk-ins for gatherings will only be allowed if we still have seats open and available.  You can check current availability of seats online at any time, even after an event has started.  Or you can check in person or by phone during posted business hours.

RSVP REQUIRED:  To assure we do not have to turn anyone away at a gathering, we will require you to RSVP and reserve your spot at each event.  RSVP can be made in-person at the shop during posted business hours, over the phone by calling the shop at 410-788-7262 during business hours, or through our website anytime

CANCELATION or RESCHEDULING:  In the unfortunate circumstance that you must cancel or reschedule your reservation please let us know as soon as possible so that we can let someone else attend.  Cancelations and rescheduling can be made by phone or in person during our posted business hours. Rescheduling is only possible for events that are already scheduled with posted dates and times.

FOOD AND DRINK:  If you are attending a scheduled class, gathering, or private lesson, small bite-size snacks and drinks are ok if covered, capped, or lidded.  No open cups, shared food, or meals at this time please.

GATHERINGS ARE FOR SOCIALIZING:  Gatherings are not the time and place for project assistance, problem solving, complex patterns requiring concentration, or getting instruction on a new skill.  When you come to a gathering, please consider what you plan to work on - complicated repeats, complex lace, and tough spots are not the best things to attempt at a gathering.  There will be conversation, banter, and other interruptions to your focus.  We will not have dedicated staff on hand for assisting gathering participants.  Staff will not be available for project help; pattern or yarn guidance; spinning instruction, etc. Gatherings are for socializing.

MASK REQUIRED:  At this time, face masks are required for attendance at all social gatherings, even if you are fully vaccinated.  We want everyone to feel welcome and safe here.  We understand that our community includes people still in their vaccination process as well as those who may still be taking precautions to protect themselves and other loved ones who may not be able to be vaccinated.  Thank you for our cooperation and understanding.  Please check back in with us frequently as this may change over time.
