How to Haunt
Friday, October 30th, 2009Convert a Song of Woe
Thursday, October 22nd, 2009I want to tell you a little about my friend Derrick. Derrick is lonely.

Derrick is a drop spindle. He is the last drop spindle in the shop. In fact, he was the last drop spindle in the shop before the last time we ordered drop spindles.

I’m not really sure why this is. I took Derrick for a test spin, and there is nothing wrong with him. He was hand turned by a fellow named Mike, the crafty father of a friend of the shop. Derrick has a shaft skinny enough to leave lots of room for yarn, but is no lightweight. His thick disk makes him just the right medium heaviness for spinning most wool fibers.

I keep telling him its not his fault, but he won’t be consoled. Thinking he might just be lonely on his perch atop the spinning notions shelf, I brought him down to hobknob in a basket of Handmaiden. But I should have known better - all that pretty company just made him more depressed.
What Derrick the drop spindle really needs is a human owner. Someone who will pull him out every now and again for a Corriedale or a BFL, who will appreciate his unique shape and perfect weight. So please, next time you’re in the shop, pay Derrick a visit. He’ll appreciate it. (Plus, we’re all getting a little tired of his pity-parties.)
HANDMAIDEN IS HERE!!!!
Tuesday, October 13th, 2009It seems like we’ve been waiting forever but it’s FINALLY here!
All sorts of Handmaiden deliciousness is here! We have Casbah - a fantastic squishy cashmere blend. It would make an amazing pair of socks. I made a lacy green beret out of Casbah that I absolutely love. It even won a ribbon at the Maryland State Fair this year!
We also got some beautiful Seasilk. This is one of my favorite yarns ever. It is amazing to work with and is great for knitting lace.
We also got the Mini Maiden which is a 50/50 silk wool blend. The colors are lovely and the yarn is sooo soft.
I have picked my three favorite colors and I would like you to come buy them so they don’t come home with me! Hurry!

The clearance bins have been stocked!!!
Monday, October 12th, 2009In an effort to pass on some savings to you all, and to clear some shelves so Matt can rearrange some bookshelves; we have put some really nice yarns in the clearance bins for you to get 15%off! I will be adding more this week as well.
Come in and take a look. The yarns are 15% off and the books/mags are %50 off.

New Class List Is Up!
Saturday, October 10th, 2009By now you’ve probably received Jolene’s email or seen the Ravelry post or even just discovered it yourself on the website but just in case you haven’t - the new class list is up! We’re so excited about the variety of classes being offered over the next few months. I don’t want to list them all here but rather share with you a few that are particularly interesting. The Mondo Cable Cardi by Bonnie Marie Burns allows you to choose the length of sleeves that are best for your body. The series of three Fingerless Gloves classes allows you to do all three as a beginner or any combination of the three based on your skill level. As always promised we continue to offer beginner knitting, spinning, and sock classes. These are so popular we couldn’t do a session without them! Lastly, brought back by popular demand is our Block of the Month class. Learn new knitting techniques on each block and take the Block of the Month Finishing class to seam them all up into a gorgeous afghan.
As mentioned earlier these are just a few of the exciting classes we’re going to be offering. Stop by to sign up soon!

October Yarn of the Month
Saturday, October 3rd, 2009It’s hard to believe that it’s actually October but it is and it certainly feels like it outside. Just as autumn is entering Kate has chosen Berroco’s Peruvia as the October yarn of the month. This month you can save 10% on all regular worsted Peruvia in stock and we’ll donate a portion of the proceeds to Kate’s old favorite charity, Heifer International.

Each hank of Peruvia is 174 yards of 100% Peruvian Highland Wool. Not too shabby! If this isn’t enough to bring you into the shop how about the fact that we have 18 amazing colors of Peruvia in stock. We’re sure you’ll find the perfect color for you and help some wonderful people while doing so.
