Angel’s Kiss Alpaca

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

Two fun new items arrived from Angel’s Kiss Alpaca today — a bulky version of their lovely yarn and kits to knit a colorful striped scarf.  For those who have never tried it, Angel’s Kiss Alpaca is a blend of 60% Alpaca and 40% Merino that has been beautifully kettled dyed in rich colors.

The new bulky weight is perfect for luxurious winter accessories to be worn next to the skin.  It’s supreme softness makes it ideal for cowls, scarves, hats and mittens for those with even the tenderest of skin.

The scarf kits are composed of three complimentary colors and the pattern for a striped, textured scarf.  The pattern is a simple one but the texture and color changes will keep the knitter interested.

The color combinations are excellent and must be seen to be truly appreciated.  Come in and see them before they are all snapped up!

Classes

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

Jolene is getting together our latest newsletter and has asked all the teachers here what they would like to teach in the next “semester.” I’m sure there will be lots of fantastic things to chose from.

We will have a few different sock making classes so you can chose the technique you would like to try. I’m sure Bonita will be teaching some beautiful new sweaters for the fall. Look for beginning and intermediate spinning classes to be held in November and December.

Is there something specific you’d like to see us offer? We’d love to hear from you! Leave your suggestions in the comments or mention it next time you are in the shop!

Can’t wait till the next newsletter comes out? We still have several great classes coming up soon.

Libby is teaching a Fair Isle hat class starting this coming Wednesday evening. Bonita will be teaching her popular “Color Me Jacket” made with gorgeous Manos yarns.

Have you seen Libby’s fantastic stuffed animals hanging out on the front desk at the shop? You can take a class and learn how to make your own! Her “Monsters and More” class meets 10/28 and 11/4.

Do you crochet? Are you stuck in a scarf and afghan rut? Why not try my Phannie Beret class? It’s a cute crocheted beret perfect for fall.

Fall Weekends

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

New this fall from Interweave is a Magazine dedicated to knitting at the weekend — projects to wear on lazy afternoons and to knit in precious moments of quiet.  The collection has some very functional pieces including cozy sweaters and home accents.  Several of these have jumped onto my to-do list with the weather changing and my thoughts turning to warm sweaters, pie baking, and snuggling on the couch.

The Gooseberry Cardigan is a long sweater with a deep ribbed collar, warm but not heavy knit in DK weight yarn.  I can see it quite beautifully knit up in Shelridge Farm DK.

The Minimalist Stripe pillow is the perfect knit to deliver a dollop of color to any living room.  Knit with a worsted weight yarn there are endless possibilities.  I see it knit in two of the lovely colors of Berroco Peruvia or Ultra Alpaca (don’t forget, the yarn of the month, 10% off!).  With so many colors to choose from, you’ll want to make piles of these.  Luckily, they’ll make great holliday gifts.

Speaking of holiday gifts, the Embroidered Apron would make an excellent present for the accomplished cook, new homeowner, or messy helpers on your gift list.  The simple shape embellished with colorful stitches begs to be re-imagined in all kinds of new ways.  Knit up in versatile, washable Plymouh Jeanee or Jo Sharp Desert Garden Aran Cotton your recipients can cook without fear of spoiling your lovely work.

Weekend also provides nice little glimpses into the knitting lives of designers featured in the magazine — they describe their favorites weekend-type projects and indulgences.  The magazine would be a great addition to your collection so why not stop in and pick up your copy today!

More new yarn!

Saturday, September 12th, 2009

Just in this week are two new amazing and beautiful yarns!  More colors of Claudia Hand Painted and the brand new Peruvia Quick…

We’ve carried the Claudia Hand Painted for a while but just last night we got in new colors I wanted to share with you.  This fingering weight yarn is ideal for socks.  Each skein gives you 175 yards of merino wool.  The beauty of this yarn is that it is hand dyed so every skein is unique - a quality many of us love in our sock yarn!  The four newest colors in are Circus Dance, Blue Fields, Mi Mi Melon, and Spring Break.  I’m curious to find out what image your mind has created just in reading those names.  Color names are a curious thing.  Here they are:

Probably not what your mind thought, huh?  I have to say that this picture does not do these colorways justice.  When you stop by and see them you’ll see just how vivid and intense they are, even the Blue Fields which features soft shades of blue, purple, cream, and green.  You’ll just have to come and look for yourself!

Now onto a very different yarn, Peruvia Quick.  We’ve had Peruiva for quite a while but now we have the bulky version.  These 103 yard hanks are the same 100% Peruvian highland wool as the Peruvia but to my fingers the Quick feels just a bit softer.  Hard to say as the worsted Peruvia is quite soft but I said it anyway.  This yarn would be just perfect for a comfy fall cardigan and the colorways we have are just right for fall.

September Yarn of the Month!

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009

Ultra Alpaca is the September Yarn of the Month!

ultra_alpaca_hank2_lg
September’s Yarn of the Month was chosen by Jolene featuring not only her favorite yarn but also her favorite charity.  September is Child Cancer Awareness Month, a cause close to Jolene’s heart.  In honor of this important month of awareness a portion of the proceeds will be donated to CureSearch.  This wonderful organization “…unites the world’s largest childhood cancer research organization, the Children’s Oncology Group, and the National Childhood Cancer Foundation through our mission to cure childhood cancer.”  You save 10% and we donate to this important group.  It’s great for everyone!

Ultra Alpaca comes in three perfect weights, fine (sock), light (fingering), worsted.  It’s a 50%/50% blend of Super Fine Alpaca and Peruvian Wool but the best part is the 215 yarns you get in each hank.  This yarn is not only well suited for any project but a great bargain for the price.  We carry nearly every color in the color card so you’re sure to find the best match to any fall project you’re about to begin.

See you soon,
Risha
