Rock Creek Sock Yarn!

rockcreek

We are excited to announce our newest yarn of the month  Rock Creek Yarns!  Rock Creek is a local hand dyer from Silver Spring.  We will have several delicious hand dyed sock yarns for you to choose from.  All Rock Creek Yarns will be 10% off for the month of July.  A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this yarn will be donated to Doctors Without Borders.

As a special bonus, our very own Jolene has designed a cute zig zaggy sock using  this yarn.  The pattern will be available free with the purchase of Rock Creek sock yarn through the month of July.

Don’t know how to make socks?  How about taking a sock class?  I am teaching the Magic Loop technique for knitting socks toe up during the month of July.  The class runs July 11, 18, and 25 from 10:30 to 12:30 for $60.00   Socks are a great summer project - small and quick!

Hope to see you in the shop soon!

A 2009 Sheep & Wool Purchase has made it into a WIP

Monday, June 15th, 2009

You know that feeling when you’ve spent so much time knitting for other people that when you finally begin knitting for yourself, it’s a whole new experience?  After a month of knitting (slowly) for others, I finally got to begin a project for me!  At Sheep & Wool I bought several beautiful skeins of Three Irish Girls from our booth (yes I know I worked at the booth but the yarn was so lovely I couldn’t help myself!).  This skein of Ian was destined to become a sweater for the little one soon to be entering my life and I was able to get on the needles two weeks ago.  I just love the way the variegated colorway is knitting up.  As you all know, it’s hard to tell what it will look like on the needles but this is fantastic:

What looks to be like a pale green in the picture is actually a bright lime and chances are the sleeves to this will be that same color in a yarn TBD.  The pattern is a modified version of a pullover from Kristen Rengren’s Vintage Baby Knits.  This pattern, albeit modified, has a simplicity that allows the yarns’ colorway to shine through.  I’m so happy with how it’s turning out!

The good news for you: we have several signed copies of Vintage Baby Knits and several skeins of Three Irish Girls that didn’t find a home at Sheep & Wool all at the shop.  Stop by soon to check them both out!

Summer Knitting and Shawl Class

Friday, June 12th, 2009

Hello. Summer is a time when we are all busy going this way and that. Playing outside or just resting in our homes. Summer also means to me lace and travel projects!
We have gotten some new lace patterns that just came out this month:

Yarn of the Week - Part 2!

Monday, June 8th, 2009

Today brings us the next Yarn of the Week!  In case you missed the news, June will have yarns of the week rather than one yarn of the month!  This way you get to stock up on four types of yarn while helping a wonderful charity: Kidney Cancer Research.  This was chosen by Dawn in honor of her sister who is battling the disease.  You save 10% and we donate to charity!

This week we’re featuring all, yes ALL, of our baby yarns.  We have them in a variety of colors and fibers - all are machine washable!  Baby knits lend themselves to summer knitting perfectly.  Always small and light-weight, they’re portable and won’t cause you to overheat!  Who wants to knit that wool pullover at the beach?  But, a pullover for a 12 month old in wool blend sounds like a perfect match!  While the baby patterns are not 10%, we have many patterns for children ranging in size from 3 months to 10 years, and beyond.

Stop by to pick up some great yarn for 10% off, help us make a charitable donation, and knit the child in your life a gorgeous new garment!
