Follow-up to this post previously posted under June 24th:

Well, 5 days left to World Cup Knit and I believe I will have my Peruvia Pamelia sweater finished on time. The only thing left to do is the sleeves, sewing it together, and blocking. I must say I have learned a lot.....not about my knitting skills but rather my spinning skills, and for that, I thank you Jolene for putting the Knitting World Cup out there. Up until now, I have been spinning small amounts of different fleeces and tops to get a feel for different fibers and how they spin and knit up into small swatches or socks. Wow! What a difference when you have to spin large amounts consistantly. Not only did I learn a good deal about my wheel, but I also learned a good deal about "feeling" everything to do with the spinning process. Up until now I had been using short draw for all my test spinnings trying to make sure I had "control" of everything. However, after spinning hundreds of yards things just kinda happened and, before I knew it, I was spinning long draw without even thinking about it (something I had been trying to achieve since I got my spinning wheel). My advise to beginning spinners, like myself, would be: to pick a larger project like a simple sweater or large shawl, get some inexpensive roving, and let go and spin.....while the project may not turn out perfect, the learning experience is worth the time and money.

For what it's worth....I have decided to accept Jolene's invitation to participate in the Knitting World Cup. I have never participated in a challenge or event like this and decided it was time to give it a try. Since I never knit for myself (always making gifts and giving them away), I have decided to make the Peruvia Pamelia sweater.....not only that, I have decided to spin my own yarn to make it. Despite the recent heat wave, I have already spun 800 yards of bfl yarn, completed both the right and left front lower bands and have begun knitting the body. Now, I must admit that when I started on June 15th I was beginning to think I would never get it done due to the hot temperatures....However, taking advantage of opportune moments has paid off. During the hours between 5pm-8pm the wind around here kicks up and there is a nice breeze outside, which makes it feel cooler. So, I sit outside and knit or spin. This past week when temps were in the 90's I had no choice but to run my ac (don't usually turn it on til temps hit 90, humidity is really high or I feel uncomfortable. I would rather spend my money on yarn and rovings than give it to the electric company) Since I had to run the cac I took advantage of the cool air to do some more knitting and spinning. Sometimes, just running a fan creates just enough breeze that my hands aren't sweating.....and, the last trick that works quite well.....Cornstarch or talc/baby powder....it's a natural absorbant...a little bit on your hands and fingers keeps your hands dry and helps the yarn or roving to slide beautifully.

If I were making the sweater I would do the lace.... If you want it for more casual wear the plain is perfect.....if you want to be able to wear it for both casual and a bit more dressy, I would do the lace.....
