Hello. Yesterday was an exciting day for me! I have a brand new niece! I have seen pictures and she is cute as a button and I really hope to get to meet her very soon. Thankfully they don’t live very far away.
Last night, I found myself distracted waiting for the news of health and well being for both mommy and baby. So doing what I always do to ease tension and anxiety; I knit. I made little baby a new hat. Quick but super sweet.
Materials: 2 US 7 Circular needles (you can also use dpns), 1 skein Urban Silk Yarn (worsted weight yarn), stitch marker and Tapestry needle.
Gauge: 5sts per 1in
Pattern: CO 63 sts. Join in the round being careful not to twist. Work in st st (Knitting all rounds) for 4″. This is going to roll at the CO edge so don’t worry about the rolling, open in up when you measure.
Decrease for the crown of hat:
Round 1: *K7, K2tog* repeat the whole way around
Round 2 and all other even rounds: Knit
Round 3: *K6, K2tog* repeat the whole way around
Round 5: *K5, K2tog* repeat the whole way around
Round 7: *K4, K2tog* repeat the whole way around
Round 9: *K3, K2tog* repeat the whole way around
Round 11: *K2, K2tog* repeat the whole way around
Round 13: *K1, K2tog* repeat the whole way around
Round 15: *K2tog* repeat the whole way around
Cut a long tail and slip the through the live sts on your needle. Take the sts off the needle and pull the tail. They will close the top of the hat. Weave in yarns.
Flower: This flower is really a ruffle done in the round and with the center pulled together like the top of the hat was done.
CO 10 sts, join in the round.
Increase Round: Kfb and front again of all sts (this will make one st increase to 3 sts) on all sts.
Round 2: Knit all sts
Repeat Increase Round and Round 2 a total of 3times.
Repeat Round 2 three more times and BO
Using the tail of your CO weave it into the sts around the center hole of the flower and pull tight to close the hole.
Attach flower to hat and put on a sweet little baby head.
