Lamb's Pride worsted and bulky weights

Lamb's Pride worsted and bulky weights

We have just received a huge shipment of Brown Sheep’s classic yarn, Lamb’s Pride in both worsted and bulky weights.  The nicely stocked display inspired us to encourage you all to check out this great yarn by making it the yarn of the month! This means you will get 10% off your purchase of instock Lamb’s Pride yarn and we will also donate money to American Heart Association based on the sales of this yarn.

Ravelry tells me that Lamb’s Pride Worsted is the 9th most popular yarn among Ravelers!  No surprise as this 85% Wool, 15% Mohair single ply worsted weight yarn is infinitely useful and has proven itself durable and beautiful, both.

Use Lamb’s Pride for any project (any kind of project, really!) for which you want beautiful color, stitch definition, softness, and strength.

Try Lamb’s Pride for warm sweaters for the family ~ Wonderful Wallaby is a classic sweater for a huge range of sizes which is perfect for Lamb’s Pride.

October Yarn of the Month

Saturday, October 3rd, 2009

It’s hard to believe that it’s actually October but it is and it certainly feels like it outside.  Just as autumn is entering Kate has chosen Berroco’s Peruvia as the October yarn of the month.  This month you can save 10% on all regular worsted Peruvia in stock and we’ll donate a portion of the proceeds to Kate’s old favorite charity, Heifer International.

Each hank of Peruvia is 174 yards of 100% Peruvian Highland Wool.  Not too shabby!  If this isn’t enough to bring you into the shop how about the fact that we have 18 amazing colors of Peruvia in stock.  We’re sure you’ll find the perfect color for you and help some wonderful people while doing so.

Ultra Alpaca is the September Yarn of the Month!

ultra_alpaca_hank2_lg
September’s Yarn of the Month was chosen by Jolene featuring not only her favorite yarn but also her favorite charity.  September is Child Cancer Awareness Month, a cause close to Jolene’s heart.  In honor of this important month of awareness a portion of the proceeds will be donated to CureSearch.  This wonderful organization “…unites the world’s largest childhood cancer research organization, the Children’s Oncology Group, and the National Childhood Cancer Foundation through our mission to cure childhood cancer.”  You save 10% and we donate to this important group.  It’s great for everyone!

Ultra Alpaca comes in three perfect weights, fine (sock), light (fingering), worsted.  It’s a 50%/50% blend of Super Fine Alpaca and Peruvian Wool but the best part is the 215 yarns you get in each hank.  This yarn is not only well suited for any project but a great bargain for the price.  We carry nearly every color in the color card so you’re sure to find the best match to any fall project you’re about to begin.

See you soon,

Each 210 yard ball of Galway is 100% Pure Wool and we consider it  to be a staple in every knitter’s arsenal.  This classic yarn is perfectly suited for anything you could ever want to knit.  Sweaters, blankets, hats, mittens, scarves, even socks would be deliciously warm out of Galway.

To get you going for fall, we’re featuring an amazing pattern designed with Galway in mind.  Kate Jackson’s November Ruffle Wrap is described as “This easy-to-wear wrap is a quick knit…Pick up and knit a ribbed ruffle on three sides of a stockinette rectangle, then wear dramatically.”  That sounds like a quick fall knit to us!

July Happenings

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

Hello. I hope you are all enjoying the summer and the fun knits that come along with that! Are you headed to the Catonsville 4th of July parade? I see the chairs all lined up along the street on my travels around town. Getting ready!!! Due to the events in town we will be closed on July 4th. I hope you enjoy the holiday!

So July came faster than I could imagine. For the July Yarn of the Month we have a new Independent Artist’s work to join our shop. Miryam from Rock Creek Yarn has brought some of her best work to the shop. She has supplied 10 different colors of her sock yarn to the shop. To promote her offerings I have designed a summer sock pattern for you. The sock is a cuff down pattern with a zig zag pattern on the leg and a star toe construction. Maybe something new for you? The pattern is Free with yarn purchase for the month of July and will be for sale after July.

As you know we like to donate what we can to charity each month. Usually this means an employee picks their Yarn of the Month and charity. This month we asked Miryam what she would like to be the charity. This month we are supporting Doctors Without Borders. So at the end of the month we will be making a donation to this great charity. You still get 10% off the Rock Creek Yarn for the month of July!

I suppose I should mention that there are a couple of spots left in Coleen’s Saturday Toe up Magic Loop Sock class that runs July 11th,18th and 25th from 10:30am - 12:30pm. This class is a very popular one throughout the year. Call the shop or stop in to join the class! (410) 788 7262.

Have a safe and happy holiday and I will see you at the shop!

Yarn of the Week - Part 2!

Monday, June 8th, 2009

Today brings us the next Yarn of the Week!  In case you missed the news, June will have yarns of the week rather than one yarn of the month!  This way you get to stock up on four types of yarn while helping a wonderful charity: Kidney Cancer Research.  This was chosen by Dawn in honor of her sister who is battling the disease.  You save 10% and we donate to charity!

This week we’re featuring all, yes ALL, of our baby yarns.  We have them in a variety of colors and fibers - all are machine washable!  Baby knits lend themselves to summer knitting perfectly.  Always small and light-weight, they’re portable and won’t cause you to overheat!  Who wants to knit that wool pullover at the beach?  But, a pullover for a 12 month old in wool blend sounds like a perfect match!  While the baby patterns are not 10%, we have many patterns for children ranging in size from 3 months to 10 years, and beyond.

Stop by to pick up some great yarn for 10% off, help us make a charitable donation, and knit the child in your life a gorgeous new garment!

Summer knitting

Hi everyone!  I just wanted to let you know that even though the natural tendency is for people to think summer is too warm for knitting– we have lots of great patterns and yarns for summer!!  We have some lovely tank/shell patterns as well as market bags and nice lacy shawl patterns.  All light enough for warm weather knitting– so don’t let you knitting skills ( and obsession!) languish during the summer months– there is a lot of good knitting time to be had while sitting at sports games, poolside or while on vacation.  Come in and let us get you started on something!

The Md Sheep and Wool “afterglow”

Here borrowing a term coined by our dear friend Jen…  Don’t let that afterglow fade!  We still have a selection from many of the fine vendors we hosted at our MD S&W booth.  Stop in  and see if that skein you left behind is still here!

Just a taste…

Yarn of the Month

You still have another 9 days to get your Zen Yarn Garden yarn at a delicious 10% off and also donate to a very good cause.  Their colors are gorgeous and their dyeing sublime!  We have “luxurious lace” which is a merino and tussah silk blend, their “tenceliscious” yarn with it’s merino and tencel combo.  Also, there are both “sturdy” and “squooshy” sock yarns in fab. colors.  A portion of this month’s proceeds goes to Kidney Cancer Research– a cause near and dear to me as my sister continues her war with this menace.
